Participation in the Medfield Foundation
The Medfield Foundation, Inc. is a volunteer-run private nonprofit, tax deductible 501(c)(3) corporation
created in 2001 to raises private monies for public purposes in the Town of Medfield, Massachusetts. The Medfield Foundation allows
donors to designate their donations for particular purposes.
The Medfield Foundation works with individuals or groups seeking to accomplish needed tasks in the Town of Medfield. Those individuals
or groups become a part of the Medfield Foundation, and carry on their work together around a particular need in the Town of Medfield
on behalf of the Medfield Foundation, as "a Medfield Foundation initiative."
To date, the Medfield Foundation has raised, administered, and passed through over $1,000,000.00 in private donations for the Town of
Medfield to help fund the senior bus, the Medfield Night Fireworks, the Dale Street Playground, the Medfield High School Field of
Dreams, track and bleachers, the Angel Run and its Natasha Domeshek Fund, the Medfield Youth Community Council, the town's Youth
Outreach Worker, the Zullo Gallery, the Adult Community Center, the Middle School auditorium, the schools in general, and the Animal Shelter.
When a group joins the Medfield Foundation, the group functions as a part of the Medfield Foundation, but any monies raised are
segregated for that particular fund and project. Technically, the group functions as a subcommittee of the Medfield Foundation.
Being a part of the Medfield Foundation, the group is expected to:
- represent their project as "a Medfield Foundation initiative" on all written materials,
- comply with the Medfield Foundation's Standard Operating Procedures,
- regularly report to the board of the Medfield Foundation, and
- contribute to the financial costs of the Medfield Foundation.
While the Medfield Foundation is entirely volunteer run, it still has costs related to its required filings. Those necessary expenses
to maintain its existence are shared amongst the various funds the Medfield Foundation manages. In the past, the Medfield Foundation
has used only 1% of the monies collected towards expenses. New groups joining the Medfield Foundation accept joint responsibility with
the rest of the Medfield Foundation funds for covering the expenses of the Medfield Foundation. If the current 1% amount does not cover
the Medfield Foundation's future costs, then more will be required, but it is hoped that such a change will not become necessary.
Since the group becomes a part of the Medfield Foundation, it is expected that the members will actively participate the Medfield
Foundation, including attendance by a representative at meetings of the board of directors on at least a semiannual basis.
