Who We SupportMedfield Medical Reserve Corp
Description of Project:The Friends of the Medical Reserve Corps provides financial and accounting assistance during emergency operations in the Town of Medfield, MA and will work with the Medfield Medical Reserve Corps and the Medfield Emergency Management Agency to ascertain needs for the purchase of basic supplies. The Friends of Medfield Medical Reserve Corps will maintain a cash reserve that can be tapped to support Emergency Services Functions #6-Sheltering and #8-Public Health in the event of an emergency. If an emergency shelter was opened in Medfield by the Medfield Emergency Management Agency for an extended period of time, the Medfield Medical Reserve Corps could be asked to provide food and drink, toiletries, baby care items and over the counter first aid products to 150 (+) shelter residents or citizens who may enter a shelter for a short period to have a hot meal, nap, and warm up. It can be anticipated that such non-governmental agencies as the Red Cross will only provide one meal a day during extended sheltering operations once a 72 hour emergency period has passed. To learn more about Region 4A MRC in Massachusetts, please go to www.region4a_mrc.org/ The goal of this project is to solicit funds and maintain a cash reserve that can be tapped in an emergency that can be used to provide financial assistance for Emergency Service Functions #6-Sheltering and #8-Public Health as defined by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for the town of Medfield. In the event of an emergency, all financial records will be kept of items purchased for emergency operations in Medfield. If an emergency is declared by the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) which includes the town of Medfield, receipts will be submitted to MEMA and reimbursement will be attempted. The goal is to try to obtain reimbursement for the established FEMA reimbursement rate of 75%. Likewise, if a business would like to donate physical goods, such as food stuffs, a receipt can be given by MFI to the business which reflects the cost of the raw product. Receipts will not be given for "in-kind services" performed during emergency activities under ESF #6 and #8 parameters since adults who come to Medfield Medical Reserve Corps operations are considered to be volunteers. Goals and Needs:Establish and maintain a cash reserve for possible short term and long term emergency operations to support Medfield Emergency Management Agency. Short term operations could be the opening of a "warming center" during severe winter weather. In this situation, cash would be needed to purchase hot beverages and snack items. All residents of Medfield would be welcomed to a warming center. Long term operations could be the opening of an emergency shelters in the event of regional severe weather episode or a flu epidemic which might necessitate the establishment of an "influenza specialty care unit." In this case, it would be anticipated that the Red Cross would provide one "heater tray" meal a day once a 72 hour passed and the community of Medfield would be relied upon to provide the remaining two meals including providing juice, beverages, milk, paper goods, toiletry items, baby supplies, and over the counter pharmacy supplies.
